On my way back from a tour in Iraq I stopped at a local liquor store in El Paso, Texas. I picked up the bottle thinking it was regular tequila. I drove to Phoenix to visit my family and of course I took the bottle with me. At a party they were having in my honor I opened this bottle of magical deliciousness. I immediately read the bottle and noticed the word "Sotol". I asked my dad about it, and since our family is from Ascension, Chihuahua my dad explained to me that sotol was the drink of Chihuahua. I have spent many years in our town and had never known this. It has truly been a delightful discovery. This sotol is light amber in color with long legs. The nose is slightly woody with some traces of alcohol, chemicals, & rather light in character. The initial taste is warm spice with a nice glowing sensation & slightly nutty. The body is medium with some spicy wood carrying over & a nutty aftertaste. This reposado has a nice open finish, encompassing the entire mouth, & ending with a hint of vanilla. HDC reposado is smooth but not quite as smooth as the plata which surprised me.
