Hands down one of the best tequilas out. Great aroma! Taste is gentle, subtle hints of vanilla, and some other fruits.

Tasted out of Double Ball glass. As Ive stated numerous times, Im a true blanco lover (too much wood taste and I get ill) and its hard to get me away from blancos. Don Julio 1942 does a great job of showing me that not all aged tequilas have to be dominated by the taste of wood. An excellent sipper to be reckoned with!

Aroma: Pleasant wood and cinnamon tones.
Initial taste: a very pleasant agave sweetness. No bitterness.
Body: An oily mouth feel of warm wood, smoke, agave, and slight vanilla.
Finish: Smooth as silk, with no alcohol burn.

It seems to me, that the Don Julio line is one of the most consistent out there. I love their blanco, and I like their repo. Im gonna have to give the anejo a shot. I hope they never lose their consistency.

my first bottle of 42 and the nose of this tequila is amazing, really warm and inviting, fruit and vanilla were the first things i noticed when i opened the bottle. Great introduction to sipping tequila as only the slightest hint of alchohol burn was quickly extinguished by the multitude of flavours and warmth that led to a beautiful smooth finish with a lovely long aftertaste.
Am searching for the perfect tequila and this is a very good start.

Tasted out of a Reidel glass on 4/16/08. I purchased Don Julio's 1942 for 99.99 at the local liquor store in Waco, Texas. The presentation was quite elegant with a slender classic bottle, shaded an olive green. The case it came in was nice as well, the only negative was there was no cork, like all Don Julio bottles...I like corks though. The color of the tequila was a beautiful honey shade, and very oily. I was surprised the tequila was not darker, after being aged 3 years. When the Reidel was tipped at a 45 degree angle and back, the oil residue slowly dripped down the side of the glass. The aroma went hand in hand with the taste. I could initially smell hints of cinnamon and spice when I smelled from the bottle. After pouring into a Reidel, more characteristics stood out. Very strong wood and smoke tones, not much alcohol hit my palate while smelling which is a good sign. I was able to also smell hints of vanilla, nuts, and very sweet agave. The initial taste took me by surprise, very potent and sweet agave, followed by a well aged flavor. The taste was much as expected after smelling the aromas...smoke, spice, vanilla, nuts, wood. The only negative here were the oils, I thought the tequila was very oily. This was all followed by wonderful aspects... The length was medium and didnt fade out immediately, the alcohol was balanced and not overpowering, the finish was very complex with a somewhat tingling alcohol burn. I thought the finish was the best part as it was very refreshing. I have not consumed many anejo's in my time period so this was a good one to get my feet wet with. Initially I was disappointed but that went away after a couple drinks. I had high expectations and didnt know what to compare too and I havent tried a comparable tequila. This is a must try for any aficionado out there.
