I do notice the slow legs on this one. Aroma: A fruity and vanilla scent. Initial Taste: A slightly heated entry( in a nice way) Initial taste is vanilla and cooked agave. Body: Same as initial taste. Solid vanilla and cooked agave. Finish: A slightly heated finish with a lingering of cooked agave. I'd almost go far as to say it tastes more like a reposado. In any case its a very tasty anejo and I would buy a bottle of this again. ]]> Sat, 23 Sep 2017 22:31:10 +0000 <![CDATA[Corazon de Agave Tequila Anejo: ]]> https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3516 https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3516 Looks like Corazon moved to San Matias distillery, one of my favorite distilleries! I wasn't a huge fan of the old corazon so let's see if there's improvement. Aroma: A nice aroma of vanilla, and slight caramel. Initial Taste: A semi oily mouth feel. There's no bitterness on entry and Initial taste of caramel and agave. Slight heat. Body: A very nice anejo body. Full of caramel, vanilla, and agave. Nice balance. Finish: A nice anejo finish full of an vanilla agave lingering. This is a very decent anejo sipper. Well done. ]]> Sun, 10 Sep 2017 19:55:53 +0000 <![CDATA[Riazul Tequila Anejo: A Blatant Cover Up of Sub Par Juice]]> https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3496 https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3496 Picked this up from Wine World after reading the reviews here. For $50 this is a HUGE disappointment. From the moment I took my first smell I picked up a very familiar "cheap" smell that I swore I had encountered before. When I looked up the NOM I almost fell over. EL CHARRO!!! About two years ago a company in south FL went belly up and left an entire warehouse of booze sitting to be auctioned off. One of my local liquor stores took advantage of this and purchased tons of El Charro and were selling them off at $8 a bottle. At that price I bought a few bottles. It was not bad, but not good either but a bargain at $8. NOTHING I would ever pay more than about $15 for. So essentially what we have with Riazul is El Charro put into USED COGNAC barrels so sub par juice can be sold at a premium price. It tastes way too much like cognac. I don't like my agave juice to taste like other alcohols. I have this same feeling about almost all of the tequilas who age in used whiskey barrels, just don't do it. If I wanted to taste whiskey or cognac I would buy whiskey or cognac. This tequila is OK. I can deal with it, but that is as far as it goes. I also must disagree with other peoples feelings about the presentation. I actually think the bottle looks quite classy. ]]> Mon, 16 Jan 2017 21:06:32 +0000 <![CDATA[Alquimia Tequila Anejo: the "go to"]]> https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3495 https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3495 this is the $50 bottle that Patron aspires to be. try it. ]]> Mon, 02 Jan 2017 19:00:36 +0000 <![CDATA[Maestro Tequilero Tequila Anejo: Maestro Tequilero Tequila Anejo]]> https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3477 https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3477 Not available in my area, I brought some back with me after a trip to Mexico. The nose is soft, grassy and floral with just a touch of wood. Mouthfeel is perfect, not too thin nor too chewy, giving way to a big green earthy agave flavour complimented by soft notes of vanilla and oak to round it out. Finish is full and medium hot with a very looong spicy agave linger and sparkle on the tongue. This is a deliciously elegant and nuanced anejo - a beautiful crown to an exceptional line. ]]> Sat, 09 Jul 2016 22:23:37 +0000 <![CDATA[Trianon Tequila Anejo: Priced WRONG]]> https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3474 https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3474 I am quite angry about this purchase. At $53 before tax I was expecting much more. A letdown right from the nose that just wreaks of cheap tequila. Lowland agave are used in all of my favorite juice but I just found one that is junk. This tequila's only saving grace are the notes of caramel and baking spices but even they are short lived. This stuff should be in the $20 range but even then I'd rather have a bottle of Espolon or Olmeca Altos. ]]> Wed, 29 Jun 2016 02:15:51 +0000 <![CDATA[Casa Noble Tequila Anejo: ]]> https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3457 https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3457 Rich, smooth, full bodied tequila with an outstanding aroma, tremendous flavor and very easy to drink. The presentation is awesome, dodgy cork excepted. While I had always hoped for goodness to flow from this bottle, I am still in my early years of defining my preferred flavour profile. This Anejo is a real joy. From start to finish. If anyone is looking to treat themselves to a great example of an Anejo style, this would be a top pick. Caramel citrus on the nose with enough agave to pleasantly cut through in all departments. I can merrily sip on a glass, while nosing for hours. Ended up drinking several shots of this stuff, just a delightful and amazing anejo. I am about the taste more than anything else and the initial hit is a smooth earthy taste of uncompromising blue agave deliciousness, which builds during the middle part. And at the end you are left with nothing but a long lasting finish that just keeps on rewarding. I have had alot of tequilas and this one is probably the highest value out there. We've been through a lot of what you can find in the liquor stores and have a few favorites, Don Julio for every day, Avion for something different, and we've tried some others while out and especially like the El Tesoro Paradiso which we cannot find in a liquor store. Someone mentioned that Kirkland had a decent anejo so we figured, what do we have to lose for $20? We did a blind taste test with that and Patron and we really like the Kirkland better. I like smooth but I also want it to taste like tequila, I think Kirkland fits the bill. I read that it is made in the same distillery as the El Diamante de Cielo so, I'm not sure what difference is in how it is made, but I think it's an excellent value for the price. ]]> Tue, 29 Sep 2015 22:00:01 +0000 <![CDATA[Gran Patron Burdeos Tequila Anejo: ]]> https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3428 https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3428 I am impressed. Don't even know where to start with this one...I suppose I should begin with how the bartender quoted me $25 for a shot but was quickly corrected by the other bartender: "No, that one is $50 per shot." After I expressed disinterest, they agreed to do $25 per shot and I said bring it on! I had seen this bottle at a local Mexican restaurant for the last 3-4 years, not a popular mover due to price. My pour was to the top of a big shot glass. Initial nose was as-expected: very much like a fine Bordeaux wine; sweet smelling but with a nice presence of distilled spirits. No agave on the nose that I could find. Sipping yielded a very elegant texture (think port) delivering a sweet complexity on the front of the pallet: raisins, vanilla, and very light citrus. The agave made its presence on the sides and back of the tongue, but it went very well with the sweetness; nothing too overpowering and certainly no burn or bitter bite. I think this stuff was smoother than anything I've ever tried; I would liken it to a high-end Cognac. The finish is complex and full, fading just in time to invite the next taste which I thoroughly enjoyed as well. The price is high, but for special occasions it's very comparable to high-end Scotch, Cognac, etc... and I think it just might be better. Don't hesitate on this one. Try it. ]]> Mon, 28 Sep 2015 21:47:15 +0000 <![CDATA[Cazadores Tequila Anejo: Too much "fresh lumber" oak]]> https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3425 https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3425 This one is "interesting". I bought it because it was a couple of dollars cheaper than the 1800 Añejo, and it's not awful. However, the oak flavor in it seems more like fresh oak lumber rather than something older and more mellow. I get the impression the oak wasn't even charred at all; it's more like I'm in a Home Depot buying some really nice wood. It's great for lumber; not so much for sipping. I will not be buying this again. ]]> Tue, 15 Sep 2015 02:31:29 +0000 <![CDATA[Gran Centenario Reserva del Tequilero Tequila Anejo: ]]> https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3419 https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/anejos/discussions/review.html?id=3419 Loved this tequila, great presentation Centenario is a very good choice. The first two have been solid entries for sure and I'm in love with the trio bottle packaging which you can buy in stores as well. This one is just the añejo, which also has a nice and sleek look. Trianon is still the only effort I've ever had from NOM 1500 (Tequilera Las Juntas, S.A. de C.V.). The color on it is really dark and inviting. I'm going to take that invitation to dive into this bottle. Price: $40/bottle Aroma: A nice nose with agave, ripe fruit and cinnamon. Initial Taste: A rich and caramel filled entry. Some agave and spice too, but a nice desserty richness. Body: A thick bodied añejo with a really nice mouth feel. The caramel and spice richness remains. Not the most complex tequila, but it does these flavors very well. Finish: It's exactly what you should expect. A strong spice linger that lasts a while. A good finish to a good tequila. Trianon Añejo might be my favorite of the line. It owns it's profile well and is a really pleasant drink. For the price, if you like dark, caramel, cinnamon and a hint of bitter oak, this is for you. A very nice effort. ]]> Tue, 07 Jul 2015 00:49:57 +0000
