As far as reposados go, this is in my top ten for sure...flirting with top five. A very fruity nose. I can't put my finger on any particular fruit, so I'll just go with bubblegum...and I don't mean that in a bad way - this smells delicious. A sweet entry with subtle fruit and spice notes. It loses the bubblegum taste, and evolves into something very nice. A medium-to-light weight in my mouth, with a slight tingling around the edge of my tongue. There is a bit of oiliness in the body, but also a dry aspect from the oak. It has a wonderful finish of slight heat, but it hits the tongue and the throat evenly, and lasts a nice long while - continued delicious lingering of fruit that turns slightly vegetal in the end. This is a very enjoyable sipping experience. Every aspect is superb and top-notch. I just wish this reposado was more readily available; if you can find it, it's usually $45-50, and it is well worth that price in my opinion. A nice bottle presentaion with a paper label and cork stopper, although I'm not sure I get the equestrian theme. The bottle's glass is green, which may help keep out damaging sunlight. Don't pass this one up! ]]> Fri, 13 Dec 2013 04:20:52 +0000 <![CDATA[Marquez de Valencia Tequila Reposado: ]]> https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/reposados/discussions/review.html?id=2488 https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/reposados/discussions/review.html?id=2488 I'd never heard of this tequila before...then the tequila buyer at a West Coast liquor store recommended it to me. And I'm glad that he did. Aroma: Agave, oak and baking spices...cinnamon being the most prominent. Initial Taste: A light agave sweetness with hints of vanilla and cinnamon. Body: A light color and fairly thin body. However it is oily enough to coat the mouth nicely and allow the palate to taste all of the flavors well. Hints of oak compliment the baking spices and agave sweeetness. Finish: An awesome finish. There is plenty of agave pepper linger. Tastes of oak, vanilla and the wonderful cinnamon spice make it the total package. A great finish. The bottle looks simple and great. The tequila inside is awesome. It's unique and flavorful. It's not in my top 10, but this is a very good juice. Highly recommended. ]]> Tue, 22 May 2012 03:58:25 +0000 <![CDATA[Marquez de Valencia Tequila Reposado: ]]> https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/reposados/discussions/review.html?id=1646 https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/reposados/discussions/review.html?id=1646 Bought in July. The price was around $28. (yes, less than $30!) Somebody said it was a poorman's Don Julio 1942. That got me interested. Used a small snifter. Neat (sangarita = lemonade). -Nose: sweet agave. A touch of oak. Slight smell of alcohol. -Color: very light. - Initial taste: very smooth and sweet. Some spice from wood. Didn't detect any harsh alcohol. - Body : medium body, agave with fairy dry oaky taste. Very faint floral note. - Finish: medium to long finish with chocolate and some wood. Somewhat dry. It's a very complex tequila. Has become one of my favorite. It has a good structure (layers of different flavors that appear in turn as you taste it). A very good reposado for less than $30. You can't beat that. If you are looking for contemplative subtle reposado (or anejo: this can stand up to any anejo), you can't go wrong with this. I really enjoyed it. ]]> Fri, 13 Aug 2010 23:27:09 +0000 <![CDATA[Marquez de Valencia Tequila Reposado: ]]> https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/reposados/discussions/review.html?id=1128 https://tequila.net/tequila-reviews/reposados/discussions/review.html?id=1128 Marquez de Valencia Reposado * Tasted Blind May 2009 * Riedel Tequila Glass Appearance: lt. straw, brown hues - thick body and slow tears Aroma: lt. wood and berries, with hints of caramel and cream Initial Taste: agave and vanilla Spirit Body: sweet agave, floral notes a hint of caramel Finish / Aftertaste: warm mouthfeel, long finish agave, mild chocolate and a citrus-mint aftertaste Great flavors through the entire tasting of Marquez de Valencia, a wonderful Tequila. ]]> Sat, 16 May 2009 12:04:27 +0000
