Ignited by the challenge of releasing a ‘best of class’ tequila at the highest proof allowed by law (110 proof), Carlos Camarena, the iconic distiller of Mexico’s 75-year-old Tequila Tapatio brand has launched a 110-proof Tequila full of fresh agave flavors and uncommonly smooth.

Why a higher proof? Tequila consists of water, alcohol and flavors: reduce the water and you’ve increased the alcohol and flavors.  “The more intense flavors mean even better cocktails,” explains Marko Karakasevic, Master Distiller of Charbay Distillers (Tapatio’s U.S. importer). “Tapatio’s 110-Proof Blanco has huge florals and spicy cinnamon, plus chamomile and rich agave.”

“B110 has taken it's place next to the best tequilas ever produced,” says Jimmy Yeager of Jimmy’s, An American Restaurant & Bar, in Aspen, CO. “The only way anyone would ever know Tapatio B110 was 110 proof is to either read the label or taste it and be astonished by the balance, silky smooth texture and the incredible range of flavors that explode on your palate. High and low notes are present, attributed to the higher proof, that are very rarely experienced in tequila.”

Tapatio 110-Proof Blanco (55% alc. by vol.) was distilled at Alteña Distillery from 100% estate-grown blue agaves in the Arandas Highlands of Mexico. Under Master Distiller Carlos’ careful watch, the agaves were hand-selected for ripeness and slow-baked for four days. After being gently crushed, the agave ‘Mosto’ was fermented in small wooden fermenters using their proprietary 75 year-old yeast culture.

The ‘Mosto Muerte’ was then double-distilled in small (90-250 gallon) Alambiques Tequilano copper pot stills and aged lightly in stainless. Bottled at 110 Proof, it raises the bar for Tequila aficionados and opens the door for ultra Tequila cocktails.

Suggested retail for Tapatio 110-Proof Blanco is $48 (1 Liter). It is available in CA, WA, OR, TX, NY, NJ, CT, FL and MO.

Tapatio’ means “someone from Guadalajara.” (No relation to the hot sauce.) Since 1937, the Carlos Camarena Family has been distilling 100% estate-grown blue agaves from the Arandas highlands. Through the family’s use of Old-World methods and small-batch distillation that date back to the 1800’s, Tapatio sets the bar for the classic quality and flavor of tequila that is disappearing in modern Tequilas.

The Tequila Tapatio collection in the U.S. now includes:

Tapatio Blanco - aged for 6 months in stainless steel. $34 (1 Liter bottle)

Tapatio Reposado - aged for approximately 8 months in oak barrels to bring in a hint of sweetness from the wood, without overpowering the spicy agave flavor. $38 (1 Liter bottle)

Tapatio Añejo - aged around 18 months in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks. $44 (1 Liter bottle)

Plus Tapatio B110 - ‘Blanco’ at 110 Proof.  $48 (1 Liter).
