Cava Antiqua Anejo. NOM 1431. Tasted 2ozs. from a Reidel at my home tequila bar on 3/8/09.
Color: Light Amber
Initial Taste: Initial mouthfeel has a light alcohol bite concentrated in the front of the mouth slowly growing sweeter and more complex.
Body: Light pleasant oily feel with very long slow moving legs running down the sides of the Reidel.
Finish/Smoothness: Smooth sweet agave with traces of cinammon and vanilla overtones that displays serious complexity and a long pleasant oak aftertaste.
Price: I have only been able to find this anejo during my many visits to Cozumel. I usually pay between $30-$35 per 750ml. bottle. I believe that it can be found in the US for between $55-$65.
Presentation: Beautiful handcrafted dark brown "jug" type bottle with leather labels and rawhide drawstring. Rustic wooden cap and natural cork stopper.
Note: This anejo has always been a personal favorite of mine. It has many of the similarities of a Don Julio Anejo but with much more complexity in both pure agave flavor and the aging process. It will always remain on my top shelf for not only it's taste but also how nicely the rustic bottle displays at my tequila bar.
