I am shocked that I am the first to write a review on Lapis Anejo. My tasting came via a trade with another member and I've been wanting to try it for a while because I've heard a lot of good things about Lapis...particularly the anejo. The fact that it comes from NOM 1146 is enough to already have my mouth watering.

Price: $50-60/bottle
Aroma: Nice sweet agave nose with accents of light vanilla, orange zest and spice.
Initial Taste: Fruity agave with a hint of smoke.
Body: A nice full mouth feel. Nice oils that coat the glass and palate well. The agave is really faint. The ancillary flavors of oak, fruit and smoke are all very present.
Finish: A very long linger. The smoke is the most highlighted. The agave comes back nicely at the finish with some minty notes that combine with the smoke to make a very unique ending.

There's just a lot to say about this tequila. The light smoke makes me think of a medium Highland Scotch. Certainly not as much as a mezcal or an Islay, but it's definitely more there than in most tequilas. It is done with nice balance with the other flavors. If you are looking for a sweet & syrupy anejo, this is not the one that you want. If you are looking for something that is different and complex, Lapis is definitely worth checking out. This is campfire tequila...something to sip slowly and savor what you are tasting.
