To say 3 Amigos is a solid and dependable tequila would be selling it short indeed. The nose on this very affordable anejo is a delight. It begins soft and floral, then opens up into sweet toffee and caramel that's almost Don Julio 1942-esque. Taste has earthy agave, vanilla, and the mere essence of woodiness, like a polite dab of cologne. There's a spicy bitterness that works exceedingly well with the agave sweetness, leaving a soft peppery numbing on the tongue. The plain-Jane packaging and lower price-point risks it being overlooked as a serious tequila, but rest assured this is a surprisingly top-flight delicious anejo. A definite keeper.
