This actually had a decent nose to me - slight floral, oak, a little spice, and some alcohol/astringent... but pretty good balance in the nose.

It had a peppery entry with hints of vanilla, and a decent agave presence. It also had quite a bite - almost more like a silver than an anejo, which I kind of enjoyed because it still had elements of an anejo.

Overall I think this is an incredible value as I saw a bottle of this for roughly $35. For that price you'd have a hard time finding a better anejo. Not my favorite, but a great value I wouldn't hesitate to have again.

The Bottle shape on this tequila is quite unique yet classy (almost womanly) drawing you in for that inital draw. hints of orange mix in with the light smoke and caramel on the nose. The initial taste carries on with the orange and caramel but adds notes of something sage like. The body is robust and extremely pleasant and the finish is long and mellow. All in all this is a very good product and has moved up my list. I am holding onto the last couple of glasses not wanting it to leave the cupboard.

Tasted out of a double ball glass. Honestly, not the best anejo I've ever tried. But not the worst either. If I saw this one at a bar, I'd have no problem ordering it and enjoying it, but I don't think I'd buy a bottle of it. It seems from their website (which is very well done and informative) that they take alot of pride in their product. I guess based on that, I was expecting a better tasting product.

Aroma: Caramel and alcohol, it's that simple.
Initial Taste: A thin mouth feel. A sweet, yet slightly bitter entry, with an initial taste of caramel.
Body: A cooked agave body, with hints of wood and earth.
Finish: A dry, slightly heated finish of medium duration with a caramel lingering.

Myself and my friends keep coming back to the El Mayor Anejo as one of our favorites. For the price (normally around $40) you really can't beat it. We normally sip it out of a double ball glass and this has to be one of the smoothest anejo's in it's price range. There is a sweet spicy flavor to the initial taste with an oaky finish and very little alcohol burn. Not a lot of Agave flavor but enough to notice, this is probably why all of my friends seem to like it. I always keep a bottle on the shelf.

My mentor, who owns the store, said this one was well worth a try. At $40, it was well worth the cost. i've spent twice the money and felt let down. The initial nose was very sensual and pleasing with notes of carmel and butterscotch. Very smooth going down with no alcohol burn. There mentioning of pepper is over stated and barely noticed. This one is at the top of my list as a favorite. DAMN, I love the aroma !
