I received this as a gift from a friend who bleeds Roger Clyne's music. With an eye roll I immediately thought another half assed celeb tequila idea hatched when bored or hungover. It even has a CD of their music packaged on the bottom of the bottle.
The following day, I called to apologize. This is legit and it's really good.
The nose nor finish are aggressive but there is enough burn to remind you it's tequila. I did some research and found it rests in Kentucky bourbon barrels for 9 months (which is on the long side for repos)and the distillery has very reputable sources for highland and lowland agave. I really like how the clear bottle accents the amber color. It's fairly dark for a repo but once tasted, the oak softens some edges and helps create a very long lasting finish. Personally, I want a long finish on any distilled spirit I enjoy. Why not? Good things in life should last as long as possible!
The distillery also developed a proprietary method of filtering post-distilled toxins before they go down the drain and eventually into the water table. If you've ever been to Tequila, it's a treasure that will hopefully last hundreds of more years. However it won't unless all distilleries commit to better production standards and stop polluting the ground water table.
Part of my apology included going to see Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers in Las Vegas over Labor Day weeekend. The band was as incredible as the tequila... which was flowing all night inside House of Blues. I hear rumors there is a Mexican Moonshine Silver coming out soon... can't wait.
