El Mayor is an interesting brand. Great bottle, good distribution, widely varying pricing...and opinions that are all over the map. I've had the anejo and thought it was pretty good...certainly worth trying the rest of the line if I could find the right price. I did...so here I go.
Aroma: Agave, a bit of spice and oak. Nothing too special.
Initial Taste: A pleasant entry with sweet agave, fruit, vanilla and a bit of spice. Basic, but nice.
Body: Medium body that has nice oils. The oak comes in nicely and compliments the baking spice (cinnamon) and vanilla sweetness. Pretty well balanced.
Finish: A medium finish with a nice balance of oak and agave with a bit of spice.
This tequila is good, but not great. I think that it could really be used well as a crowd pleaser because it's not at harsh and has some nice agave notes with spice and aging. This is a really solid reposado. If you can get it for under $30...buy it.
