Luna Malvada is a new brand for me. In fact NOM 1572 is an entirely new distillery for me. Stainless steel oven, shredder roller and just a few brands being made there. As with many of the reviews, this was done blind.
Price: $40-45/bottle
Aroma: An odd nose on this one. A bit a crème brulee, but also a hint of harshness. Seems out of balance a bit.
Initial Taste: A vanilla sweetness that is overpowered, by a medicinal harshness.
Body: A pretty oily and thick body. The sweetness remains, but is out of balance with a spicy note and the similar medicinal notes.
Finish: A pretty short finish. The vanilla sweetness is still there and the peppery notes linger a bit as well. Still not a great combination of flavors.
Not a great drink overall. I always feel bad writing reviews like this, but I want to be honest about what I'm tasting and how it compares to its peers. With this one the flavors are out of whack and the harshness just isn’t pleasing on the nose or palate. I’d pass on this one if offered for free.
