Have loved Cabo Wabo since the 90's. I first tried it at a Sammy Hagar (Wabos-post VH) concert circa 1996. The stuff is just a solid tequila, from the aroma (citrusy) to the finish (nice smooth agave with sweetness). Doesn't have any harshness and it's not one of the "earthy" blancos, which I don't care for. This one is my "go-to" for shots and it's cheap enough (but high quality) to make good drinks with. If this one is on hand at a bar, I will never ask for Patrón. Good stuff!

Now this is a good place to start when trying out new types of tequila. There seems to be two distinct camps when Cabo Wabo tequila is being reviewed. The first group is complimentary and the second is well you know, not so nice.I will make this as painless as possible.I LIKE blanco tequilas.I feel they are the flagship model for all new tasters to the world of tequila.Reposados and anejos are fine but to really understand what tequila is all about you must start at the source.Never mind the Sammy Hagar connection because that's all incidental to giving a fair review. The Cabo Wabo blanco has a nice flavor of agave when you let it sit on the tip of your tongue. It DOESN'T have an oily texture mixed in it like alot of others do.There is pretty much no alcohol taste anywhere which is a big plus.It finishes very nicely leaving you with a "where did it go?" sensation as if you sipped from an empty glass. So give this fella a fair chance. You may just become a new fan.

I was hesitant about Cabo Wabo tequila, after all what does Sammy Hagar know about making tequila, so I just ordered a shot at a restaurant to try it. Wow, was I surprised. The aroma hit me hard with agave, and the taste and feel came along to support the nose. I was drinking tequila and eating crow at the same time. After a bit of research, I found that Sammy had fallen in love with an artesanal tequila that was out of business by the time he was ready to invest. He took a sample around to a dozen or more small tequilerias to find someone who made or could make something similar. The plan was to serve it in his cantina in Cabo, but he ended up liking it enough to bottle and gain wider distribution. I have not tried the repo or anejo versions, but the silver is great and a good buy in the $35 to $40 range. I plan to buy a bottle soon.

Con mucho gusto, Buzz
