Another first taste of a brand for me. Man In Black tequila is the newer entry into the market from Kinky Friedman. The first thing that strikes you about this tequila is the color. It's aged 8 years in French Oak barrels and the colors shows every bit of that. When you see a tequila that looks like this, you can't wait to taste what the aging has done...I'm just lucky enough to have that chance.

Aroma: A lot of oak…a little bit of agave.
Initial Taste: A nice mix of agave, fruit and oak. A light barrel spice is there too. The bitterness of the oak is definitely there right off the bat.
Body: A bit lighter of a body than I’d expect given the color. There’s no dominant flavor, but there’s a nice balance of oak, spice, berries and agave. The peppery kick is lost with the aging, but that doesn’t take anything away from it.
Finish: A nice oak and fruit linger with a hint of dark chocolate. The longer you wait, the more a vanilla custard aspect comes through. A very appealing finish.

This is a nice late night sipper. The agave is light and the wood influence is a bit heavier, but that’s to be expected with an XA that has been aged for 8 years. There’s a nice balance among all of the flavors and it’s really pleasant through the entire drink. The only real question is the price. This tequila is in the $150-200 range and compared to what is available for that price, it's probably a tough sell. However, if you have the means and you like the french oak influence and a very woody tequila, this one is pretty tasty and will be right up your alley.
