Oro Azul is a long beloved brand from NOM 1079 and most of what you read out there will reflect that number. My bottle is from the new NOM 1580, although it is my understanding that it's the same facility and that production methods will not change. I can't personally speak for the 1079 añejo, so you might just have to compare notes with other reviewers.

Price: $40-45/bottle

Aroma: Kind of a trademark nose of 1079. Nice agave scent, but also notes of oak and smoke.

Initial Taste: Fruity agave entry. Also notes of caramel and spice.

Body: Medium to thin body and the oak moves forward in a big way. The earthy agave flavor is strong as well, but the notes from wood are strong with dark chocolate, spice and a woody bitterness.

Finish: A very nice finish. There's a linger of chocolate, wood, smoke and a lingering nuttiness that gives a very nice overall flavor.

A very solid offering from a solid distillery. Fair price and nice presentation. There's nothing not to like about this brand and expression. Is it the best añejo out there...nope. Is this a brand worth having on your shelf...absolutely.

Slightly thin in the Riedel glass with quick thin legs and a lovely gold copper colour - clear and bright. Nose is super-light but eventually yields up baked agave, dried fruit and very mild wood. Initially it is semi-bitter... there is no suggestion of sweetness. Agave and oak aromas blossom in the nose, while the body offers the same round bitter agave against a mineral and clay back note. Finishes nicely with candied fruit, wood and minerals. Orto Azul Anejo is a surprisingly dry presentation, considering the blanco and reposado. This is a worthy anejo, but some may feel it lacks dimension, particularly in the nose.

Bought 4/28/10 at a local market paid $40. NOM-1079, make some excellent tequilas, Oro Azuls' reposado is very good, this prompted the purchase. The bottle is nice but has stickers on it which I'm not a big fan of, but I don't mind if the product is top shelf. Had 3 oz.s from a 6 oz. shot glass, color is light amber, nose is light, agave/floral and alcohol. Fast running legs that gather quickly on the sides. Has a thin mouth feel... "weak" is the word that comes to mind. I'm left disappointed and unimpressed. The body is... well, watery. The finish is lack luster but better than anything else. Leaves a sight numbing and a burnt almond taste, virtually no heat. For the $ there are better anejo's out there. I'll pass on this next time.

Initially the first scent had me worried, all I could smell was an alcohol burn.
Fortunately, there was none of that in the actual taste. It was very light and went down easy, with virtually no burn at the end.

A good all around tequila, fairly affordable in the Western MA area approx $47

Found this tequila in a small liquor store in a very small town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It was $70.00 for a bottle but I bought it because I had never heard of it before. Very smooth and fruity. Drank it faster than any bottle of tequila I have ever bought. In June (2008) visited the distillery in Jesus Maria (Jalisco)and obtained my second bottle. Wonderful.
